Christmas In The Country
Posted: December 19, 2010 Filed under: saturday | Tags: Boordy, holiday, wine 2 Comments »Yesterday we spent some time at Boordy Vinyard with friends.
They have events throughout the year like chili and wine pairings, fondue in Feb, and this weekend was Christmas in the Country.
They were out of my favorite variety, but it was still fun to spend some time with friends over a few bottles of wine.
We were able to taste a bunch of wine and go on a tour for only $5. A great way to spend an afternoon when outdoor activity requires many layers.
The group agreed we would be back in February for fondue!
Up And At Em

I am trying to get to the Farmers Market before going to Civic Works and volunteering to make an Urban Garden for B-more. I am kind of excited, but it is 5 hours of moving compost with high winds and a chance of a t-storm. I just hope they don’t come together. I was thinking of going with cold cereal with yogurt, but I decided to treat myself. It is Saturday morning! It is also probably why I am running late!
2 slices of whole wheat dipped in skim, almond breeze, flax, 1 pollet and cinnamon.
Topped with defrosted frozen raspberries, pb, chia seeds and some almond vanilla granola + 2 handfuls of granola eaten while cooking.
Wonder what Sissy does while I take pictures outside?
She stalks the bird feeder. Doesn’t her white bib look pretty? We take her collar off at some point during the weekend to let her neck breath and so we can sleep in a bit without a bell ringing at 5:30AM.
Ok I have got to get on the road! I am going to try and document my experience, but we shall see!
Happy Saturday, make the most of it!

Sorry I did not post last night Nick and I were to busy playing guitar hero and watching Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. Did you know that french fries count and a vegetable in school lunches???? Gross.
So lets back up to yesterday’s LUNCH
Organic pink lady slices and a lovely wrap.
Avocado, Hummus, last of the leftover baked tofu, cheese and spinach.
All day I just wanted to be outside! It was amazing weather outside and I just wanted to enjoy it. Unfortunately I was stuck in my cube, but my boss did let me go an hour early!
Just before leaving I had 1/2 a piece of banana bread made by my boss and her son yesterday. It was delicious!
I took my time getting home and hungout with Sissy a bit before going for a nice little run! I did my usual route but added a little bit going out so I could stop at the local market to pick up some more milk and then walked the rest of the way home.
When I got back I did some foam rolling and core work and hit the showers.
When Nick got home we walked to the wine store to pick up a bottle to have with dinner.
Hillinger pinot grigio. It was pretty good, but I do enjoy reds better. I just will never be a white wine type of person, but it does seem to taste better on a warm afternoon.
Along with my vino I used up some things in the fridge.
Leftover refried bean enchilada that had been in the freezer for way too long, but still came out delicious and a lovely spinach salad.
I can’t really remember what I put in the enchilada but it was something like ff refried beans, jalapenos, tomatoes, black beans, enchilada sauce, cheese and cilantro.
For dessert Nick and I split some chocolate over Jamie Oliver.
We played/sang the night away and went to bed early because we both needed to be up “early” in weekend time.
I had planned to go running this morning, but when I woke up I was pretty sore (in a good way) and it was a lot colder then I thought it was going to be. I am taking a more Zen like approach to running by doing it when my body is ready and willing instead of forcing it.
Speaking of running…
I signed up for a race! It is only 3.72 miles so I think I will be OK. It is local and a pretty big race around these parts. I have a few more I am eyeing, but this one is at the end of the month April 25th. I am hoping and I am running 4 miles with ease by that point. I am super nervous/super excited!
Because I was up to go running I did some icing, rolling and stretching.
I also had time to make a delicious breakfast!
- Wegmans delicious bread
- egg whites
- cinnamon
- vanilla
- flax
- skim
I also threw my bananas in the pan while the toast was cooking.
Along with my bananas I topped the toast with vanilla cinnamon pb and some maple syrup.
This was delicious! So many seeds and grains.
Alright I need to pack for Easter and then Jen and I are going to the REI members only sale at 10AM. I am really looking forward to it. I only have 1 hours to look around though because I have to leave for Charm City trivia finals at 11, then we are off to CT for Easter!
See you tomorrow for a bunny recap!
Sanibel Day One
Posted: March 20, 2010 Filed under: saturday | Tags: gramma dots, mushrooms, salad, Sanibel, shrimp Leave a comment »Hello from Sanibel Florida! I just realized I didn’t get a picture of the beach, but I will surely fix that tomorrow.
Our flight was on time but it was not an easy one. I am STILL congested and the pressure on my ears was crazy out of control. I also had two allergy attacks throughout the flight. If that wasn’t bad enough I also felt like I was going to barf while we were landing due to turbulence.
When we were finally on the ground we got our rental car and it the road for Sanibel and Gramma Dot’s.
This place was recommended, but it left me wanting more. I started with the Key West larger for a little local flavor.
I then ordered the misquette grouper sandwich, which was supposed come with a side of fruit and homemade potato chips.
The flavoring of the sandwich was really nice, but I don’t think one strawberry and a small piece of cantaloupe count as a side of fruit.
After lunch Mom and I went for a nice walk along the beach and checked into our condo.
We watched some basketball which snacking on chips, salsa and wine, and my bracket hopes were dashed with Kansas’ loss.
Ugh I was so close! Those are our few shells we have collected so far! After a little nap we set to making dinner. Due to my illness and chips I wasn’t very hungry. Thankfully we had planned a light dinner of shrimp and salad.
I sautéed some mushrooms and shrimp in out olive oil and vinegar dressing plus half of a lemon (there is no S&P in the condo! (So odd to me).
Mom made a simple salad of Romain, carrots and fennel.
Yummy scrimp!
We have big plans for a farmers market and shelling in the morning. People are really, serious about shells around here. I think I am also going to attempt to do a little barefoot running on the beach tomorrow! The sand is really soft around here. Just something easy like 20min. Bikes ARE the only real form of transportation on this island and there are miles of paths. I am so exited!
New Additions!

Bowling last night was a lot of fun! We ended up having to play duckpin, but I won a game and got the highest score of the night!
After bowling we went to the diner and I enjoyed cookie Friday with a giant macaroon. Almond paste is one of my weaknesses.
This morning I did not want oats. I also didn’t need a breakfast that would last me 5+ hours. I went with some eggs in a whole!
I haven’t had these suckers probably sense Christmas and it was a nice change.
Runny yokes are my jam, but runny whites, ew. I had a lovely ripe organic pear (also a dirty dozen) and I made a banana pb sandwich out of the cutouts.
I also treated myself to some lovely French press coffee.
I wish I had the time and will to make coffee this way every day. Sissy sighting!
Foam!
After breakfast I headed to Trader Joe’s to pick up some goodies. I also stopped by Pier 1 to see if they had anything good on clearance.
I got these three dishes for $7! Regularly the bowl alone was $10.
After putting away the groceries, doing a little indoor gardening and re-filling the bird feeder I sat down to a nice little lunch.
On my new plate (!) I had my leftover Pad Thai with some fresh basil from the garden and a green monster.
In my monster I had 2 cups spinach, 1 cup unsweetened vanilla rice milk, 1 banana, 4 ice cubes and 1 tbs raw almond butter.
Mmmmmm greens! I miss these POM glasses, they were so unique. I did read why they changed their packaging but I can’t quite remember. I think it had something to do with saving energy and recycling issues.
Time to fold some laundry! Soooo exciting.
I hope you are enjoying your Saturday!
Saturday?
Posted: February 13, 2010 Filed under: saturday | Tags: burger, chobani, feta, pumpkin oats Leave a comment »Is it the weekend? It really feels like it should be a Tuesday! It is the weekend woohooo!!! And a long weekend at that! I am up early to head down to BARCS early and play with the kitties!
A quick run down of yesterdays eats:
Orange, carrots and wrap with leftover brussel sprouts, honeycup mustard, swiss and spinach.
This orange was much better than those I had had previously. The other ones had sooooo many seeds.
Afternoon snack, return of an old friend. I thought a little protein would help me not snack when I got home, I was wrong.
Afternoon drive.
This is how west Baltimore treats a snow emergency route.
I stopped by Whole Foods on my way home to pick up some items for Valentines Day dinner, which is also Nick’s birthday dinner!
When I got home I sat down to some cheese and crackers while I cooked up some stuffed feta burgers.
feta burger with avocado on top, mustard, pickle and huge salad with carrots, maters and yellow peppers.
Feta! They got a little dry, but this was my first time cooking burgers on the griddler.
If my before dinner snacking wasn’t enough, I also had a bunch of graham crackers and one with a melted adora disk before playing Band Hero!
If I could limit myself to one of these they would be awesome!
We spent the rest of the night playing Band Hero with friends and then headed out for a drink. I seriously almost fell asleep at the bar.
This morning I wanted to try Kath’s pumpkin cottage cheese oats.
- 1/3 cup 5 grain cereal
- 1/3 cup h20
- 1/3 cup almond milk
- 1/3 cup pumpkin
- vanilla
- nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves
- chia – end
- cottage cheese – end
- almond butter
- pumpkin butter x2
- vanilla almond crunch granola
Time for me to to get ready to visit Sissy’s friends!
See you for lunch!
Snow Day!
Posted: January 30, 2010 Filed under: saturday | Tags: bagel, french toast, kefir, pear, salad, wegmans Leave a comment »Well hello there from the great white Baltimore!
We have made a few new friends today due to the lack of food.
Mr. and Mrs. C were among the many! Sissy is in heaven and even thought she could somehow make it through the glass window and get one. Yes, she may not be the brightest, but we love her.
So backing up to yesterday…
Work was super busy, but we always take time for lunch.
Salad of spinach, carrots, celery, tomatoes, avocado and balsamic with a big hunk of herb beer bread.
I didn’t have my snack until I got home, but a glass of wine joined it
Last night Nick and I couldn’t figure out what to do. I had to be at BARCS at 8:30 this morning for training, playing with kitties and escorting, so I didn’t want to make it a late night. We settled on Disc One of Mad Men and Wegman’s PYO (pick your own) dinners.
My dinner included:
Multigrain bagel with flax (Wegman’s has amazing bagels) toasted with almond butter and jelly. I also had a salad of mixed green, steamed broccoli, red peppers, tomatoes and a white bean pesto mix. I also had a store made chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookie.
I had to celebrate cookie Friday!
Mad Men was interesting. I mostly spent my time thinking about how my Dad grew up in the time this was going on and my grandfather worked! I think I am more interested in the history rather than the actual plot lines.
I was up early this morning to get into the city of training, and I was really close to just going with a bowl of cereal. I saved myself and had a lovely batch of french toast!
I dipped two pieces of Quinoa bread in 1 egg, skim, flax, cinnamon and almond extra (best part). I topped my toast with a heated mash of black berries and maple syrup. I also had some kefir with chia seeds, banana and almond butter.
This was delicious!
At BARCS today I adopted out my first cat! It was great, but no one else wanted to look at cats so I called 4 hours my time for the day. I finally got home around 1:00pm after deal with snow traffic, threw my clothes in the washer (Sissy cannot get sick from the other cats) and me in the shower.
I was more than ready for lunch!
Part 1: I made a little savory bread pudding with my leftover beer herb bread! I mixed together about 2 slices of bread with 1 egg, skim, hot sauce and poured 1/2 into my cute ramekin. Then I had a layer of spinach and tomato sauce. I finished it off the the rest of the bread and 2 pieces of Cabot cheddar. I cooked it in the mirco for one min to make sure the egg cooked then transferred it to a 425 toaster oven and cooked it for 10min.
Golden crispy cheese! I think I would have cut down on the skim and put some cheese 1/2 way through next time, but this was pretty darn tasty.
For my dessert/lunch part two I had a delicious pear.
I heated a pear with cinnamon for 1:30 then topped it with vanilla almond crunch granola. Wow this tasted just like a pear crisp! Next time; bowl and smaller pieces of pear.
Delicious DIFFERENT lunch. I always feel like I have to make my lunches at home different from anything I could bring to work.
Alright, I need to get to the cleaning I have been putting off all day and check out what the weather is going to do tonight.
Stay safe in the snow!
The Sissy Show
Posted: January 16, 2010 Filed under: saturday | Tags: oats, Ravens, Sicily Leave a comment »Good Afternoon! It has been a busy morning around these parts! I am leaving for the river in about 1.5 hours, and it better not take me the two hours predicted. Oh well I will get there.
I was up at 7AM for breakfast to get my errands done.
I had another empty jar!
I made stove top oats with vanilla cinnamon, raisins and one chopped apple then added it to the Cinnamon Raisin Swirl PB jar.
I didn’t have any toppings because I had to do another taste test my now “Ravens black raspberry pound cakes”. They have the constancy more of a pound cake rather than a muffin so that is what I am going with.
I am going to go ahead and bring them. If Jen doesn’t like them I will just bring them home for Nick and I.
After breakfast I headed to the grocery store got that done, flew home threw things into the fridge and ran to get my car inspected. Ayche passed with flying colors!
Now I need to shower, finish packing and meet Nick for lunch at Roly Poly! I won’t be posting until I return from the river so I am leaving you with the cutest pictures of Sissy to date! She was such a good subject today!
This is her “rub my belly please” pose.
“Give me 12”, really this “give me that camera string mommy!”
I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
See ya in 24 hours!
DON’T FORGET TO CHEER FOR THE RAVENS TONIGHT!
