Toothless Eats
Posted: December 5, 2010 Filed under: wisdom teeth | Tags: banana, oat bran, pudding, sweet potato, wisdom teeth 1 Comment »On Friday morning I had my wisdom teeth out. Did you know you can have any number of wisdom teeth up to 4? I only have 3!![]()
So what does one eat when solid foods are not allowed and I am scared to get dry sockets! I also did not want to be eating ice cream the whole time because I still need to get nutrients into my body! (I did have the last of our vanilla coconut ice cream on the first night and it was delicious!)
I have been using my blender and masher quite a bit.
My mom was here the first day and she made me a big thing of chocolate pudding with yogurt.![]()
I added some blended banana with peanut flour to the remaining pudding for another “meal”
I have also been eating a lot of mashed sweet potatoes with goat cheese melted in.![]()
More of these…
Blended with this and some vanilla hemp protein.
I am also enjoying some smooth cold/luke warm soups.
This tomato bisque from WF is really good cold! I ate about 3/4 of it in one sitting.
For breakfast I have been eating milked down oat bran with a mashed banana.![]()
I wish I had more pudding right now, but I want to eat a big piece of crusty bread even more. I can only chew with my front teeth and it definitely makes you slow down to eat.![]()
If you have your wisdom teeth out, what did you eat?
side note: You definitely do not need to spend the money of anesthesia unless you have serious dental anxiety or your teeth are impacted. I have nitrous gas and I was fine. It also saved me $300.
Pancake Friday!
Posted: May 7, 2010 Filed under: Friday | Tags: banana, black beans, kickball, mango, pancakes 1 Comment »Whoa I just made an epic breakfast, but first I need to highlight yesterday
The honorable mention goes to my lunch time sandwich creation
I thought this would be a great sandwich, but it only turned out so so.
Refried black beans, mango, avocado and cilantro. I thought it would be sort of like the black bean burgers with mango salsa from Cooking Light, but they were missing the spice me thinks.
In second place, Caroline’s Cupcakes (which doesn’t have a website?!). This is a new cupcake place that just opened next to our kickball field that I had to try.
I ran to the field so I didn’t have my camera, but I got a mini vanilla with chocolate icing and I would give it an 8/10. The icing was really nice and light with a good chocolate flavor, but the cake was a little dry and bland.
AND finally in first place…
OUR KICKBALL TEAM FINISHED UNDEFEATED! We are heading to the playoffs with a number 1 seed. I hope we can pull it off this year!
Now back to that breakfast…
I had been seeing a lot of pancakes on the beat so I thought Friday would be a great day to make some.
I used KERF’s recipe for yogurt pancakes but I nixed the oil for flax and added a handful of granola. I also halved the recipe.
Topped with mashed banana, pb, chia seeds and cinnamon.
These were so good! I love pancakes!
What a way to kick off a Friday!
Here comes the weekend!!!!
Drip, Sputter, Drip

Well we seem to have gotten water back some time in the night, but it is still sputtering out of the taps and I don’t think I will be drinking it straight for awhile.
I went back to old faithful this morning and I sure did miss my oat bran!
- 1/3 cup oat bran
- 1/3 cup skim
- 1/3 cup sputtery water
- 1/3 cup Stonyfield plain
- 1 banana (1/2 mashed in, 1/2 on top)
- 1 tbs wheat berries
- chia seeds
- Sanibel pb
- vanilla
- cinnamon
Oats in natural porch light…we are so close to sunrise breakfasts again!
Note: The news just told me to conserve water if I have it…guess I should have held off watering my plants this morning, but they would have died today!
Try going a day without your taps or toilet. Nick was happy he didn’t have to do the dishes.
Kickball tonight if the t-storms hold off.
It is going to be a long day.
At least it is almost the weekend!
26 Tomorrow
Posted: March 12, 2010 Filed under: Friday | Tags: banana, micheal pollan, oats Leave a comment »Well the rain is finally here…just in time for the weekend and my birthday
I was really hoping to be able to go on the beach for my birthday, but the surge might be too big. Maybe there will be some good shells?!?! I can’t believe I will be 26 tomorrow! I feel so old. I know I am not, but it those years just seem to sneak up on you after 21.
I went back to regular oats this morning. I know stepping way out of the box. I made them the exact same way as my oat bran.
Breakfast on a grey window sill.
- 1/3 cup Old Country 5 grain cereal
- 1/3 cup h20, 1/3 cup vanilla rice milk
- pinch salt
- cinnamon
- vanilla
- flax
- chia seeds
- 1/3 cup Kefir
- banana
- banana pb
Reflective rainy day.
Banana flower!
I still like oat bran better. Maybe I would like oats if I made them on the stove top, but I do not have time for that. Oat bran seems to hold up nicely in the mirco.
Time for the Friday edition of Food Rules brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule #37: “The whiter the bread the sooner you’ll be dead.”
This rule makes me laugh, but seriously white bread is basically like taking a sugar pill to your body. It is so easy to metabolism that you body turns it right into an insulin shot. Try and get some whole grains in your bread!
Hitting the roads early because people dry slower in the rain.
Happy Friday! I will heading to Ocean City tonight so not sure when I will be posting again. Have a great weekend everyone!
Switching It Up
Posted: March 3, 2010 Filed under: breakfast, Wednesday | Tags: banana, biggest loser, eggs, trader joes Leave a comment »Biggest Loser was pretty intense last night! Sometimes I wonder if Jillian’s reactions are real or scripted?
This was Sissy and my reaction to Michael’s choices for teams.
How creepy is this picture of Sissy? I think she was moving? You can see the couch through her ears!
So we had a great time watching BL. Larabar made an appearance and you could tell they felt the same way I did about the product. “This does not taste like pb or a cookie”.
Anywho this morning I really wanted eggs for breakfast and I wanted to switch up my normal oats. Win-win.
Two egg pouch, toasted TJs fruit fiber muffin with butta, banana with pb. Lots of flavor to keep my mouth busy!
Well see how this breakfast goes! I got my protein, whole grains, fat, and fiber.
Alrighty time to get moving! I can’t believe it is already Wednesday, weeks never move quickly for me.
My momma is getting crushed by snow right now! I guess NE is finally getting the snow they are always supposed to get!
Have a Great Day!
Blooms
Posted: March 2, 2010 Filed under: breakfast, Tuesday | Tags: banana, blueberries, muesil, muffin, Oikos Leave a comment »Good Morning! The birds are already up and chirping at my feeder and Sissy is at full attention. I also had another pretty site/smell this morning when I woke up.
My blue hyacinth is in bloom and smelling amazing! We are actually having yet another day of normal temps and I am taking it as a sign that we have truly turned the corner to Spring.
This morning I had a serving of Oikos to use in some cold Muesli.
In my Oikos container: 1/4 cup Oikos, 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill Muesli, 1 banana, blueberries, cinnamon, chia seeds, TJs bran berry muffin, skim and almond butter. I also had some Bolivian coffee in honor of Jen!
We shall see how this compares to my Kefir oats. So far, it is cold.
It’s that time again! Food Rule of the day brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule #30: Eat Well-Grown Food From Healthy Soil – support farmers that choose not to use harmful pesticides or pharmaceuticals to grow their plants. You are what you eat holds true for plants as well. Check out the dirty dozen to figure out which food you should focus on buying from healthy soil.
Today seems to be the day of delays on the roads. I better get moving! Enjoy your Tuesday!
Sticking With What Works
Posted: February 23, 2010 Filed under: Tuesday | Tags: banana, blueberries, muesli, trader joes Leave a comment »Good Morning! I am so happy I woke up not sick or with any knee pain! Awesome! No gym today, but I plan on going on Wednesday and doing the same workout with maybe a little more walking. I would also like to thank my mom’s friend Veruska for reminding me that taking care of my health is number one, and I can’t jump back into the same speed and level I was performing at before my injury cold turkey. Thanks Veruska!
These days I have been wanting something other than oats, but I always seem to return to the delicious rock! I mixed it up a little bit from the past few days.
- 1/3 cup Bob’s Red Mill muesli, skim, water, Kefir
- forgot the flax
- almond extract
- cinnamon
- chia seeds
- banana – 1/2 mashed in 1/2 on top
- blueberries
- TJs fiber cereal
- crunchy PB
It was nice to have some extra toppings to change the texture.![]()
I totally forgot about Food Rules yesterday! So today I bring you a double dose of Michael Pollan knowledge!
Rule/Proverb #24: “ Eating what stands on one leg (mushroom and plant food) is better than eating what stands on two (fowl), which is better that eating what stands on four legs (cows, pigs, and other mamals).”
Rule #25: Eat your colors! – Simple and requires little thought!
There is some serious fog out there today due to all the snow melting from rain, so I better get on the roads before more people crash! It amazes me that we can’t go one morning without an accident on some major roadway. Where is that teleport!?!?
Have a great Tuesday and stay healthy!
Finally Digging Out!
Posted: February 11, 2010 Filed under: Thursday | Tags: banana, burrito, guitar hero, pancakes Leave a comment »It feels so much like Sunday night! I can’t believe tomorrow is Friday! I finally took some picture of what we have been up to.
Nick, Rory and Doug jammin’ out to guitar hero. I got the game for Nick for his birthday.
Even Sissy got in on the action!
So backing up to breakfast, skipping lunch and moving into dinner…
PANCAKES!
These were seriously 80% fruit and amazing! I used mixed frozen fruit with my usual pancake mix, cinnamon, chia seeds, flax and vanilla.
I topped them with some raw almond butter and maple syrup.
Almond butter was also featured in my breakfast for dinner. I was starving when I looked down at my watch and it was 8:30PM (after playing many hours of guitar hero) so the quickest thing I could come up with was breakfast burritos and fruit.
I like the roasted almond butter better…Inside my burrito there were eggs, dill, cilantro, turkey bacon, spinach and cheese.
Easy and quick.
Not sure if we will have another round of guitar hero, but it is office time now!
Back to work tomorrow!
Have a great night!
Graham In My Oats
Posted: February 9, 2010 Filed under: Tuesday | Tags: banana, graham cracker, micheal pollan, oats Leave a comment »It’s coming! 10-20in is on its way for this afternoon! It seems like all I have been doing is talking about weather lately, but this is unreal.
I am just hoping we step it up with closing work tomorrow. I really don’t think I am going to be able to make it in if they only issue a liberal leave.
I have been really phlegmy lately, (to much?) so I omitted any dairy from my breakfast and brought back almond milk!
- 1/3 cup 5 grain cereal
- 1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 mashed banana
- 2 tbs vanilla hemp protein
- handful TJs fiber cereal
- 1 sheet of graham (I ate another sheet while the cooked!)
- blueberry jam blob
- almond butter blob
I forgot my chia seeds! Damn
I love honey graham crackers!
Side note: I may have mentioned this before, but how is it that the federal government is closed for the second day and Maryland State is wide open!?!?!
Anywho…It is time for a Food Rule of the Day brought to you my Michael Pollan!
Rule #18: Don’t Ingest foods made in places where everyone is required to wear a surgical cap. (This is different from a hairnet)
This is a continuation from yesterdays rule of making sure humans are actually making your food.
I am going to try and get on the road a little early today to make sure I can get to work on time. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon…lets hope it goes smoothly.
Hello Tuesday!
