Spotty At Best

Before the craziness began I had breakfast outside with Sissy.
She enjoyed her daily dose of pansy.
While cooking I had a PB & J with some cheese.
I planned shrimp salad, greens, homemade biscuits, homemade hummus and guacamole.
I also managed to have a couple mint juleps and bourbon brownies throughout the night.
My horse came in third and our new roommate won our nine dollar pot.
I was sleeping by 9:30
Up at 7:30. I just can’t sleep in.
Sissy and I enjoyed another humid breakfast of the balcony
Green Monster with spinach, strawberries and milk. FFL english muffin with pb and Crofter’s and the other side with an egg.

Time to get my Sunday started.
Fog Horn
Posted: April 27, 2010 Filed under: Tuesday | Tags: breakfast, cereal, Oikos, rain Leave a comment »Fog horns are only acceptable in Maine, on the water, with a lighthouse. I am so sick of the rain and fog. I am going to have to bring my plants in tonight! Poor little guys.
I didn’t take my breakfast out to the garden because I couldn’t stand the dampness sinking into my skin any longer then it has to.
I had an Oikos container with a serving of yogurt to use as my base for breakfast. I love these no brainer breakfasts.
In my Oikos tub:
- ~3/4 cup yogurt
- sprinkle grape nuts
- 5 chopped strawberries
- 1/2 cup Kashi H2H
- 1 Cup TJs fiber cereal
- 1/2 banana
- blobs of homemade almond butter with flax and chia
- almond milk
This weather just makes me feel so blah! Come on sun poke out your shiny face!
My knee feels good today and I think I will do a slow and short bike ride at the gym with arms today. We will see how she feels after work.
Time to get moving. I wish I had a bright yellow shirt to wear today!
Keepin It Green

Sorry I didn’t check in last night we were busy winning our 6th kickball game in a row! Booya! We are amazing haha. I would like to win so that we can quit next year. Everyone on the team is getting pretty old for Thursday night drinking.
So lets do a little recap of my green eats yesterday for Earth Day!
(Multiply this picture x2) – I am bringing these to work to get them out of the house!
Random dinner…I had shrimp planned but I was not feeling it this afternoon so I went with a delicious omelet.
In my omelet: sundried tomatoes, cheese, peas, kalamata olives, rosemary, S&P, garlic powder.
In my mini green monster: TJs whole grain drink, frozen tropical blend, large handful spinach.
I really liked this random dinner! The best part about it? Nick tried my green monster and said it wasn’t that bad, and he wanted to try one! Too bad I used the last of the spinach
I cannot wait to make him one with raspberries! (His favorite fruit)
This morning I had a simple Friday breakfast.
Cold cereal bowl: Oikos, shredded wheat, TJs fiber cereal, Uncle Sam, strawberries, homemade almond butter with cinnamon and vanilla crumbles, skim.
My calf feels good today! I didn’t notice anything yesterday at kickball so I am going to head to the gym today and take it easy to see how it feels under a little stress. I think I will be good to go for my race! I also signed up for another race last night, but I will get to that tonight! It should be fun with a little mini vacation for Nick and I!
Time to get this Friday started!

Hot Day, Cold Start
Posted: April 7, 2010 Filed under: breakfast, Wednesday | Tags: cereal, Oikos, wheat berries Leave a comment »Good Morning! Today is the last day of nice weather out there before we head back into the seasonable 60s. I am picking up my bike today and thankfully It only needed about $100 worth of work. This will give me time to save and search for the perfect road bike while still being able to get in a few rides!
I am saving oatmeal for tomorrow’s cold weather so I stuck with Oikos and cereal this morning.
- ~1/2 a cup of Oikos
- 1/3 cup TJs high fiber
- 1/3 cup Kashi H2H
- 1/3 cup Uncle Sam
- 1 cup frozen tropical fruit zapped for 1 min
- few wheat berries
- sprinkle of chia seeds
Lovely side view.
Mangos are so sweet! I always forget that! This was a really refreshing start to my morning and now I need to get moving! I am hoping to get a bike ride in today but we will see what the day brings.
Check ya later!
It’s Getting Hot Out There
Posted: April 5, 2010 Filed under: Monday | Tags: cereal, Easter Leave a comment »Good Morning! It has been a long weekend but worth it to see my family. I will give some Easter highlights later today but I will give you a peep.
I guess one good thing about being back in B-More is that the weather is going to be amazing this week! I can’t wait to get out and run tonight. I am also taking my bike into the shop for its tune-up tomorrow.
Due to the warm weather I opted for a bowl of cold cereal this morning.
- 1 shredded wheat biscuit
- 1/2 cup TJs fiber cereal
- 1/4 cup Uncle Sam
- 1/4 cup Kefir
- sprinkle wheat berries
- banana
- skim
- banana pb
It is going to be a long day, but I am hoping the nice weather will keep my spirits up plus I am taking a big step today with my job!
See you tonight!
Do You Drink Your Fruit?
Posted: March 10, 2010 Filed under: Wednesday | Tags: cereal, micheal pollan Leave a comment »Good Moring and welcome to grey Maryland. It actually isn’t raining yet, but it is coming! I’ve got my duck boots ready to go.
For breakfast this morning I went the cold route. I was so hot last night sleeping! I think my body was still used to 20 degrees not 60!
I made up a GIANT bowl of cereal. It is about the same calories as oat bran,*****edit later in the moring…um this actually is a lot bigger than oat bran, no wonder I had a hard time finishing it. Currently extremely stuff!*** just a lot more volume due to air.
- 1 shredded wheat round
- 3/4 cup TJs high fiber
- 1/2 cup Kashi H2H
- 1/4 cup Uncle Sam
- 1/4 cup Kefir
- 1 banana layered
- raspberry preserve
- peanut butter
I also tried a new chocolate coffee today, yum! I was getting really bored of the plain normal coffee flavors.
Yep, it is grey out there and we still have some snow that will not go away!
It is that time again! Food Rule of the day brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule #34: Eat Sweet Foods As You Find Then In Nature
Most sweet foods, mainly fruit, pack their fiber with sweet juices. This rule basically means don’t drink your sweets and there is no such thing as a healthy soda. If you do drink juice aim for one with pulp. We are one of the few mammals that consume calories through liquid after weaning. Love your water! I used to be anti-water and now I drink over 64oz a day. I just makes me feel so good to be hydrated!
Alright that was supposed to be a short rule, but guess not.
I’ve got a busy day to get to. Happy Wednesday!
Dark Cereal
Posted: March 5, 2010 Filed under: breakfast, Friday | Tags: cereal, micheal pollan 1 Comment »Well Happy Friday!
I just heard that there is another recall on “processed food”! I love food recalls because they bring the issues we are facing with our food system to the front burner and people actually pay attention when they think they could get sick. Are any of these food in your house?
Now back to our regular programming…
In pictures what you missed yesterday. We went to trivia last night and I didn’t have time to post.
One of these is not like the other…Questions? Comments?
No? OK lets move on to a natural light breakfast!
So they are still a little dark and grainy but we are so close to sunlight at breakfast time!
In my bowl I had a cold cereal mix.
- 2/3 cup tjs high fiber
- 1/3 cup Uncle Sam
- 1/3 cup Kashi H2H
- 1 banana layered in
- blueberries
- almond vanilla granola
- chia seeds
- blueberry jam
- pb
- Kefir
- vanilla rice milk
Blanket of Kefir!
Some times you just need a little cold cereal in your life.
And now a quick look at a Food Rule for the day brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Food Rule #32 : Don’t overlook the oily little fishes.
Now I am going to have to say I did try sardines and wanted to barf. That being said it could have been my recipe and I also hate any fish that tastes fishy. I would like a professional to make me some sardines and they I can have a good opinion. I also feel the same way about salmon. It is just too strong for me but I want to try it!
I have to leave a little early this morning to gas up and get driving.
Happy Friday Everyone!
Valentines Day Wrap-Up
Posted: February 15, 2010 Filed under: Sunday | Tags: buffalo, cereal, green beans, tiramisu, valentines day Leave a comment »Good Morning! It is Presidents Day so Nick an I are both off from work. I have plans for a vegetarian lunch in the city with a friend, LOTS of cleaning and then dinner with Nick’s family for his birthday. First I owe you a Valentine’s Day re-cap.
To start off I had way too many of these for breakfast.
Then when I got home from the grocery store I needed to make dessert soooo I had to sample the cake base.
So basically to this point I had only had cookies and cake to eat…who am I? A ten year old?
I made Nick a Valentine’s Day brunch but all I could muster was a small amount of Oikos, blackberries and banana.
I didn’t get hungry until 6pm at night when I started to make dinner and the smells filled the apartment. I made a little goat cheese and cracker plate for Nick and I.
Like my Lilies? They are from my secret lover
Our Valentine’s Day dinner was also a special dinner for Nick’s birthday week. He planned the menu. Buffalo strip steaks marinated in red wine, fresh green beans with balsamic mustard sauce, goat cheese potatoes au gratin. I also had a few glasses of wine through dinner.
The griddler did a great job getting the grill marks onto my streak! Nick forgot he was eating buffalo, that is how non-gamey it tasted.
And now for the best of the dinner!
Dessert! Personal tiramisu! Again by Nick’s request. I sort of made up my own recipe off some I researched on the web and I also simplified it.
Layers:
- lady fingers (I used Madelines)
- pour Kailua and fresh brew coffee over cakes
- pour mixture of; marscapone cheese, brown sugar, regular sugar, more Kailua
- re layer one more time and sprinkle coco powder on top layer
Some times tiramisu calls for brandy but Nick loves Kailua so I just stuck with that. Most recipes also called for cream cheese, but I just used all mascarpone.
This was super yummy and really easy to make actually.
Nick and I finished out the Nick with a few more rounds of Band Hero and Zack Efron in 17 Again. It was a cute movie and Nick actually laughed at certain lines. It was a very successful easy Valentine’s Day meal and activities.
This morning I snapped a few more pics of my lilies.
And a pretty basic breakfast of cereal and fruit.
Uncle Sam, TJs fiber, Kashi H2H, pear, orange cranberries, dried blueberries.
Check ya later!
