26 Tomorrow
Posted: March 12, 2010 Filed under: Friday | Tags: banana, micheal pollan, oats Leave a comment »Well the rain is finally here…just in time for the weekend and my birthday
I was really hoping to be able to go on the beach for my birthday, but the surge might be too big. Maybe there will be some good shells?!?! I can’t believe I will be 26 tomorrow! I feel so old. I know I am not, but it those years just seem to sneak up on you after 21.
I went back to regular oats this morning. I know stepping way out of the box. I made them the exact same way as my oat bran.
Breakfast on a grey window sill.
- 1/3 cup Old Country 5 grain cereal
- 1/3 cup h20, 1/3 cup vanilla rice milk
- pinch salt
- cinnamon
- vanilla
- flax
- chia seeds
- 1/3 cup Kefir
- banana
- banana pb
Reflective rainy day.
Banana flower!
I still like oat bran better. Maybe I would like oats if I made them on the stove top, but I do not have time for that. Oat bran seems to hold up nicely in the mirco.
Time for the Friday edition of Food Rules brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule #37: “The whiter the bread the sooner you’ll be dead.”
This rule makes me laugh, but seriously white bread is basically like taking a sugar pill to your body. It is so easy to metabolism that you body turns it right into an insulin shot. Try and get some whole grains in your bread!
Hitting the roads early because people dry slower in the rain.
Happy Friday! I will heading to Ocean City tonight so not sure when I will be posting again. Have a great weekend everyone!
Winner Dinner!
Posted: February 19, 2010 Filed under: Friday | Tags: oats, pot pies, quinoa, Real Simple Leave a comment »Good Morning! Sorry I missed you last night, Nick’s roommate from college was in town so we treated him to trivia downtown and were not back until 11PM (1 hour after my bed time
)
First off lets get to a quick run through of yesterdays eats! There were some good ones!
Clems, cottage cheese, quinoa salad.
I mixed plain quinoa, spinach, carrots, oranage pepper and balsamic mustard dressing.
Check out all of my produce stickers at work!
I waited to have my snack until I got home. Only enough to told me over until dinner.
Dark German bread with a little bit of pb. Then it was time to get onto making dinner!
This was a recipe for chicken pot pie that I cut out of Real Simple last year and have been waiting to make. It was so simple. I talked to Jason (Nick’s roommate) the whole time and didn’t really have to pay attention to cooking. I had cooked the chicken last night when I made Nick’s chicken curry and just shredded it this afternoon. I cut the recipe in 1/2 and added mushrooms, but other than that I followed the simple steps.
- Heat oven to 400
- Cook onions and carrots in oil until tender
- add flour
- add wine and milk
- add peas, thyme, S&P, mushrooms
- Divided between ramekins or one large 8×8 dish
- Cover with pie crust cut outs and vent
- Cook for 30min or until golden brown
Broken crust.
I had a little extra dough and after checking out the pilsbury website I made some chocolate chip, pumpkin butter roll-up for dessert. Baked 10min
Not bad for a 5min dessert. How can you go wrong with chocolate? These would be great for a party.
This morning I needed to use up my can of pumpkin, so pumpkin oats it was! They hadn’t failed me all week, why stop now!
I changed it up and used steel cut oats this morning, but other than that it was exactly the same.
Very thick!
Food Rule! Food Rule! Brought to you by Michael Pollan! Remember these are rules on what to eat.
Rule #23: Treat meat as a flavoring or a special occasion food.
I think this is a very hard rule mentally for Americans to get a handle on. Flavoring does not me beef stock, it means a smaller portion ie 4oz instead of 8oz. I know it was hard to me to not have meat at every dinner. It seems like it is just something we do as a culture, but I have realized that meat is a privilege. We should lift meat up higher standards and honestly respect for the animals. This has been shown decrease injury in the workplace and increase personal health.
I really like this rule.
Yikes that was long I need to get out of here!
Happy Friday!
Confused Morning
Posted: February 18, 2010 Filed under: Thursday | Tags: knee, micheal pollan, oats Leave a comment »Good Morning! Happy Thursday! Cheers to positive thinking!
How does my knee feel this morning? Great! Actually my hamstrings are a little tight and sore (most likely from my back strengthening exercises). I can’t believe I am sore after 45min of exercise! This also just leaves me more confused…
Back to something that does not really confuse me, oats!
- 1/3 cup oats, water, skim, Oikos
- almond extract
- 1 pear sliced and cooked with the oats
- cinnamon
- chia seeds
- coconut
- vanilla almond crunch granola
- raw crunchy almond butter
This needed a little more sweet, but I didn’t know what to add! I also wish regular oats weren’t so soupy.
Quick Food Rule brought to you by Michael Pollan! The next section of rules deals with what you should be eating (mostly plants)
Rule #22: Eat Mostly Plants, Especially Leaves.
Time to shovel the rest of my oats in the mouth and get out of here. It is finally recycling day again and I have a ton to drop off!
Have a positive thinking day!
Happy Birthday N!
Posted: February 17, 2010 Filed under: Wednesday | Tags: micheal pollan, Nick, oats, pumpkin Leave a comment »First and foremost: HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK!
Nick is turning the big 2-6 today, and we are celebrating this weekend with a tournament of his favorite game, beruit.
The kids are finally back in school today, with a two hour delay. Things are finally getting back to normal around here, and I hope that means the traffic on the way to work will be a little less stressful.
Yesterday’s breakfast was so good I decided to make the exact same bowl of oats today!
- 1/3 cup oats, skim, water, pumpkin
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp vanilla
- cinnamon
- pinch salt
- 1/3 cup Okios
- 1 tbs crunchy PB
Melting peanut butter!
Food Rule! Food Rule!
Brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule #21: It’s not food if it’s called by the same name in every language. (Think Big Mac, Cheetos, or Pringles.)
Alright ladies and gents it is time for me to go jump on the birthday boy and wake him up! I have a feeling he stayed late at trivia to celebrate his birthday. I don’t remember him coming home!
Have a great Nick’s Birthday Day!
Forgot the Food
Posted: February 16, 2010 Filed under: Tuesday | Tags: frozen yogurt, liquid earth, oats Leave a comment »Good Morning! It totally feels like Monday today. We have been spoiled with all of these days off and now we are getting back to the grind.
I only took one picture of my food adventures yesterday at Liquid Earth, Mr. Yogato and Macaroni Grill.
Guess where this was from? I actually had a great lunch of melted brie with apples and Hawaiian onions. For dinner I did my research and found a reasonable choice on the menu of Macaroni Grill. I got a cesar salad and a shrimp spendini. The shrimp was actually really good with a bunch of grilled veggies.
The above fro-yo is a SMALL!!?? with raspberries and chocolate shots. One thing I miss about the city is all of the unique eating options, but I don’t miss the crime.
This morning I made a lovely bowl of pumpkin oats!
It was a little soupier this morning because I didn’t use any oat bran. I wanted to see how it would hold be verses the mix.
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/3 cup h20
- 1/3 cup skim
- 1/3 cup pumpkin
- 1 medium banana
- cinnamon
- vanilla
- 1/3 cup Oikos
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tbs crunchy peanut butter
Finally the return of the Food Rule of the day brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule #20: It’s not food if it arrives through the window of your car.
I think this one is pretty self explanatory and kind of a duh rule.
Time to get moving! I can’t believe schools are closed AGAIN! Tomorrow is a HUGE day…NICK’S Birthday AND my one month of doing nothing is over!!!!!!!! I am planning on running one mile in the t-mill to test it out…fingers crossed!
Return to Normal
Posted: February 12, 2010 Filed under: Friday | Tags: micheal pollan, oats Leave a comment »Wow 5:30 came really quickly this morning! As hard as it was to get back into an early morning it was also nice to get back to my normal routine. I am a big fan of plans and organization.
It was also really nice to return to oats!
Oats In A Jar!
I have missed the lovely little oval oat.
In my jar:
- 1/5 cup mix oats and oat bran
- 1/3 cup skim
- 1/3 cup h20
- cinnamon
- vanilla
- pinch salt
- 1 chopped banana
- 1/3 cup Oikos
- 1 tbs flax
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- vanilla almond crunch granola
Warms me through the core!
Another thing to get back to…Food Rule of the day brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule #19: If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t. This is a continuation for rule #17 – eat only foods that have been cooked by humans.
Kind of a catchy little phrase there!
Again, I am going to try and get on the road a little early today. The roads are semi-cleared, but who knows what they look like in the city.
Happy Friday!
Graham In My Oats
Posted: February 9, 2010 Filed under: Tuesday | Tags: banana, graham cracker, micheal pollan, oats Leave a comment »It’s coming! 10-20in is on its way for this afternoon! It seems like all I have been doing is talking about weather lately, but this is unreal.
I am just hoping we step it up with closing work tomorrow. I really don’t think I am going to be able to make it in if they only issue a liberal leave.
I have been really phlegmy lately, (to much?) so I omitted any dairy from my breakfast and brought back almond milk!
- 1/3 cup 5 grain cereal
- 1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 mashed banana
- 2 tbs vanilla hemp protein
- handful TJs fiber cereal
- 1 sheet of graham (I ate another sheet while the cooked!)
- blueberry jam blob
- almond butter blob
I forgot my chia seeds! Damn
I love honey graham crackers!
Side note: I may have mentioned this before, but how is it that the federal government is closed for the second day and Maryland State is wide open!?!?!
Anywho…It is time for a Food Rule of the Day brought to you my Michael Pollan!
Rule #18: Don’t Ingest foods made in places where everyone is required to wear a surgical cap. (This is different from a hairnet)
This is a continuation from yesterdays rule of making sure humans are actually making your food.
I am going to try and get on the road a little early today to make sure I can get to work on time. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon…lets hope it goes smoothly.
Hello Tuesday!
It’s Coming…
Posted: February 4, 2010 Filed under: Thursday | Tags: breakfast, micheal pollan, oats, snow Leave a comment »You can feel the snow in the air. It is coming!
That mass in the deep south is heading right towards us! People are already freaking out, but I am just making a to-bake list
It would also be a good time to do my taxes and plan my vacation with my mom, even though it will most likely be through the phone
I think I have had oats every day this week! I need a change tomorrow, but this mornings bowl was still delicious!
- 1/3 cup; oat/oat bran mix, water, skim
- 1/2 mashed in banana
- cinnamon
- almond extract
- 1 tbs flax
- 1 tsp chia
- 1 scoop amazing grass
- 1 quinoa crunch square
- small sprinkle vanilla almond crunch granola
- raspberry jelly
- almond butter
- 1/4 cup Kefir
- other 1/2 of banana
Glamour shots.
What time is it? Food Rule of the day time! Brought to you by Michael Pollan!
Rule # 15 : Get out of the supermarket whenever you can. “You won’t find high fructose corn syrup at the farmers market”. In fact you won’t find much processed food unless you count hand made sausages or homemade cheeses as processed. Another good this about farmers markets/ Co-Ops and CSAs is that the food most likely traveled a much shorter distance to get to you and therefore had a smaller impact on the planet. You win and the planet wins! No brainer there!
Time to gobble down the rest of my breakfast and get on the road!
Have a great Thursday!
The Sissy Show
Posted: January 16, 2010 Filed under: saturday | Tags: oats, Ravens, Sicily Leave a comment »Good Afternoon! It has been a busy morning around these parts! I am leaving for the river in about 1.5 hours, and it better not take me the two hours predicted. Oh well I will get there.
I was up at 7AM for breakfast to get my errands done.
I had another empty jar!
I made stove top oats with vanilla cinnamon, raisins and one chopped apple then added it to the Cinnamon Raisin Swirl PB jar.
I didn’t have any toppings because I had to do another taste test my now “Ravens black raspberry pound cakes”. They have the constancy more of a pound cake rather than a muffin so that is what I am going with.
I am going to go ahead and bring them. If Jen doesn’t like them I will just bring them home for Nick and I.
After breakfast I headed to the grocery store got that done, flew home threw things into the fridge and ran to get my car inspected. Ayche passed with flying colors!
Now I need to shower, finish packing and meet Nick for lunch at Roly Poly! I won’t be posting until I return from the river so I am leaving you with the cutest pictures of Sissy to date! She was such a good subject today!
This is her “rub my belly please” pose.
“Give me 12”, really this “give me that camera string mommy!”
I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
See ya in 24 hours!
DON’T FORGET TO CHEER FOR THE RAVENS TONIGHT!
Orange-Cran

Hola! Buenos Dias!
Yeah I only speak kitchen Spanish so unless you want some shrimp or fish don’t ask me to translate.
Why am I speaking spanglish you say? No reason they were just reporting a news story in spanish to switch it up so I thought I would too.
Breakfast this morning was a hit!
I am seriously going to perfect this recipe with orange juice next time I make it.
Orange Cranberry Oats
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup h20
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 banana
- pinch salt
- sprinkle Uncle Sam
- sprinkle granola
- orange scented cranberries
- blob vanilla cranberry pb (!!!)
This is target brand and it was mighty creamy, low on the cranberry flavor but a nice subtle vanilla flavor.
I have a huge love for orange cranberry bread and that is what I am going to try and get next time with the OJ.
Like my ice cream spoon? I think I will omit the banana and just cook with the cranberries and OJ. Oh I can’t wait to make this again!
Until then I am off to finish it off and get my day on the road!
Adios!
