First Gifts!

Today Nick and I got our first wedding presents from a friend who will not be able to attend our wedding!

I love kitchen gadgets and now we finally have a kitchen timer that is not a knob on a stove from 1980.  I was so excited about the spoon straws I had a smoothie for dinner.

  • Amazing Grass Superfood
  • mixed frozen berries
  • banana
  • yogurt
  • milk

Today I also got to attend Nick’s sister (Katie) bridal shower.  It make me anxious about being the center of attention.  I don’t like being the center of attention at all.  As a kid, yes.  Now I really do not like it probably because with the attention comes expectations.  People expect your wedding to have certain things and Nick and I are pretty far from the normal line.  I just hope people will understand that times are changing and we will have worked really hard to make our wedding our own.  I am really grateful for having Katie around because she has been where I am and has a lot of insight as far as planning goes.  It is also nice to talk to other brides because I feel that when it is all I can think about I could start to annoy people.

160 days to go!!!!

A Bit of Magic

I got a special delivery today!

001 My magic bullet!

I won this sucker through a giveaway on RunEatRepeat and I have been looking forward to it arriving on my door ever sense!002 This comes at a great time because Nick has been really getting into smoothies these days.  He is actually eating them for breakfast! He is not a breakfast person.

Best features…

  1. Portable for tailgating or any other time you need a blender to go…beach, camping etc.
  2. Small and dishwasher safe

I am going to give her a whirl tomorrow morning with a breakfast smoothie.

I still need to read the directions, but I figured out how to charge her.

Line em up and drink them down!

003 Do you have a magic bullet?  What is your favorite combo to create in it?  I see that it makes salsa and grinds coffee? Crazy!

Now what to do with the old blender…

Opening Day!

Good Morning!  I hope to find you off to a great Tuesday this AM!  My day should be busy, which makes the day fly.  The best part about today???  The farmers market opens today!!!!!  I am so excited to attend my first farmers market of the season!  I can’t wait to check out my new spot!  I’ll be sure to report.

Breakfast

001 Smoothie and toast.  But not just any smoothie or toast.

In the wine glass;

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1 packet Amazing Grass berry
  • 1 tbs hemp protein
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • sprinkle of chia seeds

The berry AG added a real berry sweetness to this!003 My toast was 2 slices of Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel with crunchy pb and pumpkin butter.

002 I always forget how much I love pumpkin butter!  I really liked this odd combo.

Well there is an accident on my commute so I need to get on the road earlier!

Have a great day!

Trying A SIAB

Good Morning!  How are you on this lovely Thursday?  I am still feeling stuffed up from allergies and my chest is starting to hurt from all of the hacking up.  Lovely I know.  I decided to go with a large dose of greens for breakfast to try and kick these allergies butt before I leave for FL.  Flying and being sick are two things that do not go well together.  My ears pop and I never have enough tissues!

So what green item did I got with?

Smoothie in a bowl, first created by KERF

001 In my bowl:

  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 huge handfuls spinach
  • ~1/3 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1 tbs flax
  • 1 tsp chia seed
  • 1 banana
  • topped with vanilla almond granola, and then again with some TJs fiber cereal

I also had a slice of Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread because I need some sort solid to go with my smoothies.

002 003

I think I still like my smoothies best through a straw, but this was a good way to switch things up and get my greens!

004 So I am no longer going to be posting food rules from Michael Pollan because of copyright issues, but you should just go buy the book for yourself!  Speaking of Pollan, he is coming to MD April 13th and I am super excited!  It is already marked down on my calendar.

48 hours and I will be on my way to Sanibel Island, and Mom will be here in about 36!  I have so much to do tonight in terms of packing, cleaning and getting Nick ready for a week alone with Sissy.

Happy almost Friday!

New Yogurt

Good Morning!  Welcome to my Monday Thursday!  Yay for 2 day work weeks.

Last night I ended up having my smoothie and grape nuts.

I used a new Greek yogurt and give it a 10!

002003 004

I have had Brown Cow regular yogurt and have really enjoyed the flavor so I thought I would give this a try because the store I went to did not have Oikos.  No artificial growth hormones and they give back to the planet!

001 Smoothie with Brown Cow Greek yogurt, skim, frozen berries and heated grape nuts.

This morning my belly was still feeling a little off…this better be fixed by Thursday…so I fixed myself a bowl of cold cereal with pomegranate arils instead of heavy oats.

005 006

Shredded wheat, Go Lean Crunch, Uncle Sam, a little Bear Naked granola and arils.

Let’s get this day started!!!!

Sunday, Sunday

So where did I leave off?

Oh yes, on my way to hot yoga…it did not go as well as the first class.  I felt like I was going to see my breakfast again, and I had to excuse myself to cooler temperatures.  I was able to return for savansana, but it was highly annoying not to be able to be part of the whole class, but I don’t think the other people in the class would have enjoyed the added smell.  I talked to Emily (the instructed) after, her and her husband Eddie own the studio, and she said it can be a number of things and not get down on myself.  I don’t think I hydrated well enough and she did mention that the Chinese food was not the best pre-Bikram choice.

I still felt more stretched and sweated out than when I went in.  I consoled myself with a large diet lemonade from Chick-fil-a and the other half of my banana before visiting the Pennsylvania Dutch Market.

010 011 013

There were tons of baked good and jarred items.  They also had lots of grains and meats.  They only took cash, and the prices were higher than I thought they would be, but it would be fun to have lunch there some time and pick up some homemade pickles.

When I returned home I wanted a smoothie and some peanut butter for lunch.  That is what I got.

014 Sicily approved of the smoothie and actually tried to drink some of it!

015 In the smoothie: Frozen berries, plain yogurt, amazing grass, chocolate protein powder and almond milk.  Leftover pumpkin waffle with Peanut butter and Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl.

For any afternoon snack I had one of my Okios cakes.

018 Then Nick and I went to a house warming party where I continued to eat tons of peanut butter cookies and other desserts :)   Whoops, they were staring me in the face, and Aubrey made “belly buttons” which and pretzels with melted Hersey kisses and M&M pressed into them.  Bite size and dangerous!  Needless to say I did not get a picture.

This morning I slept in until almost 10AM!  It was nice to get lots of sleep!

I wasn’t extra hungry for breakfast so went straight for the fruit and yogurt.

002 1/2 and apple, banana and a clementine with plain yogurt a few WW shredded wheat bites and cinnamon.

003 So weird to see sunlight on my breakfast!

I had to get a new battery for my watch at the mall and I grabbed a pumpkin maple cake on my way out the door.   I popped into a few stores and found a flannel shirt that I liked, but it was $40!!! I don’t think so!  Clothes have gotten so trashy lately.  I can’t wait to hit up the high quality of Freeport, ME.

When I got home it was time to set out on a nice long run on this beautiful 72 degree day!  I ran about 9.5 miles, and my legs felt amazing!  It was such a nice run except being forced of the road by two cyclist that had to ride side-by-side while a car and I were passing them.  Come on guys I thought we shared the road together!

It was about 4:30PM when I got home so I did a little cleaning before I got in the shower and set to work on a 10min dinner.  I really wanted the rest of my sesame noodles but I beefed it up a little bit.

005 Noodles with shelled edamame and cherry tomatoes, heated so the tomatoes pop warm and gooey in your mouth.

004 Along with my noodles I had the last of my kale in chip form with ketchup :)   I don’t think I will ever get sick of these!

For dessert I had two clementines to keep it on the light side.  Making up for last night.

006 Ok, I need to get back to mopping the kitchen floor and cleaning the bathrooms.  Don’t be jealous, I live a glamorous life.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

T-1 Day!

Sorry followers I am going to have to make this short.  I need to get some things done before heading out the the door to prepare for momma!!!

I could not look a straight up carbs this mornings so I turned to an old favorite, the incredible edible egg!!!

001 1 egg with 1 egg white, skim, S&P omelet.  Filling of spinach and an LC wedge (that I did not get mashed in enough :) )

I was really happy to switch this up!  I also made a fruit smoothie with frozen blueberries, flax, banana, skim and plain Cobani.

002 It is raining out…just like it will be tomorrow at this time when I am getting ready to head into the city for the 1/2 marathon ahhhh!  Picking up my packet tonight then home to chill with mom and Sicily (who is still not better :( )

You can still donate for the animals!!!!!

Happy Friday!

Smoothie and Food Bill

So today brings some awesome news!  There is a new bill in food safety!  After seeing Food INC.  I am excited to see that “voting with your fork” is actually working!!!  I am a bit skeptical of the bill due to the fact that Monsanto basically owns the FDA, but I am hopeful and will be watching the Take Part Blog for reactions.  The next step is to separate the Food from the Drugs in FDA.  Man made Chemical combinations + Food are NOT a natural combination!

On a lighter note…I made an awesome smoothie last night!  After the potluck lunch I wasn’t feeling a big meal.  I settled on a smoothie and some Kashi crackers.

Sorry still no pics :(

Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie:

  • 1/4 cup Nasoya dark chocolate silken tofu
  • 1/2 cup frozen organic raspberries
  • 2 tbs oats
  • 2tbs ground flax
  • large spoon Greek plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond breeze
  • 4 ct ice cubes

THIS SMOOTHIE WAS AMAZING!

Training notes:

  • Katherine and Liz – a good 3 miler yesterday on a new route and kept their target time.  They are on their own this weekend.
  • Jen – Study, Study, Study – good luck Today!!!!!!!!  She will be getting back to the grind on Sat,  she promised me!
  • ME – I did 4 miles flat and strength yesterday.  I have taken a break from Body Pump because I seem to be hurting my patella with all those lunges and squats.  I decided to stick with the lifting machine for my legs to prevent and bad extensions.  I did legs presses, weighted calf raises, hammie pull downs and quad thrusts (I did a few extra of these on my right quad, which is weaker for some reason).

MOMA BEANS is coming to visit for the weekend! So excited!  We are doing sooooo many fun things! One being the Orioles Red Sox game on Sat. night! :)
